Background

Early childhood education plays a pivotal role in shaping children’s attitudes and behaviors toward sustainability. Recognizing this, the EU encourages the education and training sector to actively contribute to the green transition by enhancing learners’ sustainability competencies.

Kindergarten teachers, in particular, need additional support to effectively teach sustainability concepts through science. The Superhero Lab project addresses this need with a twofold objective: to engage young children aged 4-6 in exploring sustainability through age-appropriate scientific experiments, and to equip kindergarten teachers with the skills needed to lead these experiments effectively.

Additionally, the project aims to foster international collaboration among kindergarten teachers who share a passion for promoting sustainability education through STEM.

To achieve these goals, the Superhero Lab project also emphasizes continuous professional development by incorporating the GreenComp framework into teacher training initiatives and results.

Target Groups

The Superhero Lab project has the following target groups:

Kindergarten teachers

Teacher-trainers working with kindergarten teachers
